Monster Guide
Evil attackers that grow by slaying and share bonuses across the type.
What Monsters do
Monsters are a big-number type. They are mostly Evil, and many of them grow when they slay an enemy, meaning their own attack defeats a character. Preening Fang gains +1/+1 permanently on a Slay, Umbral Blade grows whenever any of your characters triggers Slay, and Goatsbane Fiend gives all your Monsters +1 Attack permanently on its Slay. Maze Brute gives your other Evil characters +1 Attack from tier 2.
The top of the type scales by multiplying those triggers. World-Coil Serpent gets +20/+20 for the brawl whenever it or another ally slays. Oni Warbringer gives a Monster +13/+13 for the brawl each time a Monster attacks. Reef Chanter summons a copy of whatever it slays, and Tide Terror needs only two copies to Upgrade. Hut-Walker Hag and Powderkeg Crone are Mage Monsters with Support, and Hut-Walker Hag makes Slay abilities trigger an extra time.
Not every Monster is aggressive. Petrifying Gorgon turns its target into a 0/6 Stone Effigy before it attacks, and Pumpkin Sovereign replaces your dead Evil characters with lower-tier Evil characters when it dies.
The shop sells 17 characters of this type, across tiers 2 to 6. 2 have a Support ability, 0 start with Flying and 3 start with Ranged. The tables below come straight from the game’s data.

What buffs Monsters
No other shop character mentions Monsters in its rules text, so Monsters are not buffed by name. Alignment buffs for Good and Evil characters still apply, and the character guide lists them.
Positioning
Slots 1 to 4 are the front row and slots 5 to 7 the back row; the rules guide explains how rows decide who gets attacked.
- Slay triggers when a character's own attack defeats an enemy. Each side attacks from left to right with the front row first, so Monsters that rely on Slay get their turns earliest in the front row.
- Umbral Blade, Hut-Walker Hag and Powderkeg Crone are Ranged, so they attack without taking counter-damage.
- Support Monsters (Hut-Walker Hag, Powderkeg Crone) belong in the back row and only help the front slots they cover.
