FableBrawl
A free high-fantasy strategy auto-battler you can play in your browser.
Recruit storybook champions from a rotating shop, arrange them across a four-slot front row and three-slot back row, then watch the warbands brawl on their own. Your choices happen between battles: which characters to buy, where each one stands, which synergies to pursue, and whether to spend Gold now or freeze promising shop offerings for the next turn.
How to play
A FableBrawl run alternates between a shop phase you control and an automatic brawl. There are no reflex inputs during combat. A strong run comes from reading the shop, planning a formation, and adapting after you see what the other warbands are building.
- Recruit. Spend Gold on characters and spells in the rotating shop. Reroll to see new choices or freeze the current shop to keep it for the next turn.
- Arrange. Move characters between your four front-row and three back-row slots. Position decides attack order, who receives Support, and whether a fragile specialist is exposed.
- Brawl. Your board meets a rival board and fights automatically. Surviving characters add to the damage dealt to the losing hero.
- Grow. Return to the shop, improve your level, combine matching copies, cast spells, choose treasures, and rebuild for the next rival.
The shop, Gold, and levels
Each shop turn begins with a fresh purse of Gold. Characters have a tier, and their tier is also their usual Gold cost. Unspent Gold does not carry to the next turn unless a card or treasure explicitly says that it does, so a frozen shop preserves its offerings—not your ordinary purse.
Your hero earns one XP automatically each turn beginning with the second shop turn, and some spells, characters, heroes, or treasures can add more. Every three XP raises your level, up to level 6. Level controls which tiers the shop can offer and contributes to hero damage after a winning brawl; it is progression to plan around, not a button that costs Gold.
Your hand holds up to four cards waiting to be played. An ordinary character purchase that would not complete an Upgrade needs an open place on your board or in your hand. A third matching copy can still be bought into a full formation because the Upgrade consolidates its copies; summons and rewards follow the placement or overflow behavior stated by their effects.
Formation and automatic combat
Living characters attack from left to right across the front row, then the back row, skipping empty or fallen slots and wrapping around. Which side attacks first is normally random unless an effect says otherwise. An attacker normally chooses a random living enemy in the front row.
Position and keywords change that default:
- Support lets a back-row character strengthen the front-row character or characters directly above it.
- Flying targets the back row first while a living back-row enemy remains.
- Ranged deals attack damage without taking counter-damage when that Ranged character is the attacker.
- Slay triggers when a character's own attack kills an enemy; counter-damage and Last Breath damage do not count.
- Last Breath triggers when the character dies, before the brawl continues.
- Quest tracks a stated goal. Completing it grants the listed permanent reward and a treasure at that character's tier.
Every character is Good, Evil, or Neutral, and also belongs to one or more storybook types. Heroes, characters, and treasures often reward one alignment or a shared type. Those broad synergies work independently of Support's exact back-to-front slot geometry.
Upgrades, treasures, and lasting strength
Three copies of the same character merge into one Upgraded, or golden, character. Its base Attack and Health double, its own numerical abilities usually scale, and permanent buffs already held by the three copies come along and stack. The merge also offers a treasure at that character's tier.
Treasures are lasting rules for the warband rather than another combat slot. They may reward a type, change the shop, alter summons, or reshape how the board grows. Because only a limited set can stay equipped, a later treasure can ask you to choose between preserving an established plan and pivoting to a stronger one.
Temporary combat bonuses disappear when the brawl ends unless the effect explicitly says permanently. Hero Health and permanent character growth do carry forward. A hero is eliminated at zero Health, and different heroes can begin with different Health totals. The last hero standing wins.
Ways to play
- First Tale is a guided complete run that introduces the shop, formation, automatic combat, and the decisions between brawls.
- Second Tale is a collection of focused, replayable lessons for Support, Slay, Last Breath, Flying, Ranged, Quests, Upgrades, attack order, and other rules.
- Solo places your hero in a full field of computer-run rivals so you can build at your own pace.
- Private Fellowships let friends host or join a room with a shared four-letter sigil.
- Ranked matchmaking finds other players who are searching and records rating through the monthly season.
- The Compendium is the complete in-game reference for every character, spell, treasure, hero, and exact keyword definition; encounter history adds context without hiding entries.
Premium is an optional cosmetic and convenience subscription. It includes features such as battle forecasts, hero emotes, portrait outlines, additional name changes, and the full match Chronicle. It does not increase combat stats, unlock stronger cards, or improve matchmaking.
Community and conduct
The FableBrawl Discord is a strategy-focused, family-friendly space to ask questions, discuss formations and card ideas, find games, and help other players. Joining is optional. Discord's minimum-age requirement and any higher age, consent, or access rule where you live still apply.
Keep discussion welcoming and game-focused. No harassment or bullying; hateful or discriminatory content; sexual or graphic content; doxxing, including sharing or threatening to share someone's private information; cheating, exploit coordination, or automated play; or spam and disruptive promotion. Moderators may remove content, restrict participation, or remove members to protect the community.
Guest play and accounts
As a guest, you may complete one full run—either a standard Solo run or the guided First Tale. The Second Tale lessons and private fellowships remain available without an account. Sign in to begin additional complete runs, enter ranked matchmaking, save match history, or use Premium.
You can choose Google or Apple on the web. The sections below describe the Google option because this page is also the public home page used for Google's account-permission review.
Why FableBrawl asks for your Google account
If you choose Sign in with Google, FableBrawl requests only the three basic sign-in scopes: openid, email, and profile. We use them for these purposes:
| What we request | Why we need it |
|---|---|
Your Google account identifier (openid) |
To recognise you as the same player each time you return, so your rating, match history, tutorial progress, and Premium status stay attached to you rather than to one browser. |
Your email address (email) |
To contact you about your account or subscription. If you opt in, we may also send gameplay tips, product news, tournament announcements, monthly ranked-season results, and reminders to return. |
Basic profile info (profile) |
Returned by Google as part of sign-in. We do not store your Google name or profile picture; your in-game name is one you choose. |
Optional marketing email
FableBrawl does not enroll you automatically. You must explicitly check the opt-in box or turn marketing email on in your Chronicle. For a player who opts in during the first seven account days, the activation series can send at most three messages before account day 14. It selects beginner help using tutorial and completed-game progress.
For an eligible established account, the same choice may later allow inactive-player messages after 7, 14, and 30 days without play. Playing again and later starting a new inactivity period can restart that schedule. Turning marketing email off, or using any campaign's unsubscribe link, stops all marketing email. Messages resume only if you explicitly opt in again.
The Privacy Policy explains the consent metadata and delivery outbox we store, the progress and activity signals used to choose helpful content, and how our email provider processes each send.
FableBrawl does not request and cannot access your Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Calendar, Photos, or another Google service. The sign-in exchange happens on our server. We do not retain Google access or refresh tokens afterwards; once the account is identified, FableBrawl issues its own session and does not call Google on your behalf.
Privacy policy: read exactly how FableBrawl accesses, uses, stores, and shares account data, including how to request deletion of your account.
